The Black Horse in the village of Fulmer is nestled between Gerrards Cross and Pinewood Studios. The 17th Century craftsman’s cottage has gradually been extended to form a charming country pub full of nooks and crannies. Under new ownership, The Black Horse has recently undergone extensive refurbishment both inside and out, creating one of the nicest pub environments in the area.

Food is our passion and we will never compromise on quality. We are proud of our seasonally changing menus, simple, yet exciting using the finest ingredients and locally sourced produce. Certain dishes have become specialities such as our sticky ribs and homemade 8oz burgers. Our beef has been aged for a minimum of 35 days and the roast beef served on Sundays is unrivalled. Crispy beer battered fish and specials such as sea bass, turbot and whole lobster, is caught in the morning and delivered fresh to us on the same day.

I have been to the Black Horse several times before but the food was disappointing today. Fish and Chips- skinny, oven fries, would have been better with chunky fries. Fish was large and cooked well. Mushy peas slightly dry. Asked for ketchup but had to wait until half way through. Sausage and mash- asked for well done sausages but quite pale and a little tasteless. Mash too thin, also not anything special. The onions on top gave it some flavour.

We have dined at The Black Horse several times over the last 20 years and always had a good experience. Not this time. We were told where to find our table - not shown to it. We were then ignored for long periods. It was about half an hour before we could place our order and another half hour before food arrived - in dribs and drabs. The portions were enormous but the quality was mediocre. We had no time left for desserts or coffee, For what we had, the price was OK. It looks like there has been a change and the Black Horse has gone down market. A shame.

I've always liked this place. It just missed the mark a little for me this time. The calamari was very very chewy. The Tuna Niçoise Salad was OK.

We had a late Sunday lunch at The Black Horse and it was a terrible experience. They only serve Sunday roast and they didn’t have any lamb left. The rest of the menu very limited and therefore we ordered scampi and chips as they were not serving fish and chips. The food that was served was straight out of freezer bought scampi which were hard and tasteless. All three dishes went back half eaten. The chips were decent. The service was pretty poor and again very slow. In terms of value, we paid just under £100 for three people which was unreasonable considering the very poor quality of food. We have been going to black horse for many years and have noticed a distinct drop in quality of the food as well as service .

The pub is advertised as dog and wheelchair friendly but it is neither. It doesn't say dogs are not allowed in the restaurant but we were told we would have to sit in the public bar, which was inaccessible for one of us in a wheelchair, but a concession was made for us to sit in an in between area. Even though there were very few diners the food delivery service was very slow. The starters were good, but the steaks were poor quality and everything on the menu was well overpriced. Overall a poor experience
