About this restaurant

  • Neighborhood gem
  • Great for creative cocktails
  • Great for outdoor dining
A shared plate dining experience, The Lex offers modern California cuisine with global influences. Chef Ethan Carreon and his team shop 3-4 times a week at the Farmers Markets to offer an ever changing menu in tune with the many seasons of the Bay Area. The Chicken from Fogline Farm and The Lex Burger is a always a stand-out as well as our vegetarian & seafood dishes. Owner Stephen Shelton is the leader of the passionate & authentic service staff on the floor and heads up the well curated cocktail, beer and wine program. Our Patio Dining is a great option for dining or dropping in for a cocktail and a bite around the fire-pit, all offering great views of the hustle & bustle of Downtown Los Gatos. It is well heated & covered for the cool and winter nights (dressing warmly is still recommended). The dining room and bar is a hip, yet sophisticated vibe for date night, a special celebration or just getting together with friends or business colleagues...The vibe is always right!

Ownership change. Used to be our FAVORITE. Food now is overly cooked. Lousy. Staff has changed. End of an era

This restaurant used to be wonderful and has simply fallen off a cliff. The service was horrible, and the food was worse.

Waitress ignored us, sat right next to GIANT wooden door, which swung into the chair. Just get rid of the table or move it somewhere else. Paid over 10 dollars for literal rabbit food. Like, turnips raw and put on a plate. Felt like we were in The Menu. Fries are good though.

I will start by mentioning that the food is always stellar, and I will continue to come back for that reason. The service however was extremely slow. For a restaurant that commands $$ per plate, the fire time/ coursing needs to be more thoroughly planned. Food took 1hr+ to come out, and not in an intentional way to help us enjoy experience. We basically sat with water for that time. It was a back-up in the kitchen, but the wait staff did not do much to help with the situation. The basic response was throwing kitchen under the bus. I could tell they were embarrassed, and did not check on us much to (I assume) avoid us asking about the food status.

The new owner is doing an excellent job of keeping the brand of this restaurant going. The service and Ambience is as good as it always was. However the menu is extremely limiting and definitely needs to be updated. We assume the menu would be changed with a new ownership but it still has very unique dishes that are expensive and not very appetizing. One example is the shrimp shared plate. The shrimp has the head, tail and shells, unless you want fish fingers all night there's literally no easy way to eat this and for $25 I felt like we had very little meat extracted from the shrimp dish.

I brought three out of town friends here for dinner last night. As usual, the menu was new and creative so I couldn't recommend many things except to say I've never had a bad dish or cocktail there. We asked the server for her opinon of the best items on the menu and proceeded to order 4 appetizers, 4 mains and desert to share using many of her recommendations. Each dish we had were some of the best any of us have ever tasted with a fantastic combination of presentation, textures and tastes. Thanks to Lex House not only for not only representing yourself so well, but for showing off how great a food experience Los Gatos can offer.

Not the greatest experience… food was pretty poor unfortunately. We got the pasta rotolo, which was a little bit like a burned cinnamon roll, honestly the weirdest pasta we’ve ever eaten. I don’t think I’d serve it to guests in my home, let alone at a restaurant. I think the chefs burned it but still sent it out. They also forgot our fries so we waited a long time for them and then finally had to ask for them, which they then brought. I don’t really understand what the big excitement about this place is. The owner/manager (?) wasn’t the most friendly either. I’d give it a miss.

I highly recommend this place. We had the polenta, trout, and cassoulet, along with three tapas to share, and the flavors just kept coming. It satisfies on so many levels, visually, et al. The staff was friendly without being constantly in your face; they let us have the table for over two hours, which I appreciated, so we weren't rushed out. It's a perfect place to celebrate an occasion but also as a warm place to connect on an ordinary night out.
