Originally opened in 2010 as the first authentic Artisan Italian restaurant in Salem, NH, Tuscan Kitchen is now one of the most beloved restaurants in New England. Founder Joe Faro, the son of Sicilian immigrants, had the vision to share his love for Italian heritage with his guests.                                                                                                 It was Mother's day an the restaurant was clearly not equipped to handle the volume. Our round of drinks came after 50 minutes of waiting, the food 90 minutes into our visit, the waiter forgot to bring butter when we requested it, and we were served cold, practically raw broccolini. A dinner costing 450 bucks should not have that many hiccups. I want to like the Tuscan Kitchen, but I leave every time with empty pockets and indigestion.

                                                                                                One of our orders came out wrong, which happens; however, the steak was ordered medium rare and came out medium to well. The biggest issue was the condition of the restrooms - they were trashed. Felt like we were at a fast food restaurant when we were in the restroom.

                                                                                                We’ve been dining at Tuscan Kitchen for years but something has really changed. We won’t be back. It was Mother’s Day and we brought our very elderly mom out for a special dinner. The music was so loud we couldn’t hear each other, the service was below terrible including the long wait for the food after ordering. There was a long wait for everything — even the check which was a ridiculous amount given the terrible service and food. There was no compensation offered by the manager.

                                                                                                Went for a special dinner with 3 generations. They did give us a good table for hard of hearing older adult per request. Server was amiable, but slow to check in. Free birthday drink and dessert were nice in concept, but not something anyone at the table actually wanted. Menu looked great, but food was just ok, not worth the very high price tag. At that price I will go for truly fine dining. This seemed like just one step up from the Cheesecake Factory.

As a “foodie”, if you will, (eat out in Boston multiple nights a week)… I know a good waitress when I have one, and Miss Judy, as well the food, were excellent. It was hard to enjoy our meal and difficult to have conversation through a two-hour toddler tantrum.
