Zuni Cafe is a San Francisco classic, known for its "best chicken in America," Caesar salad, and "great ambiance." The restaurant offers exceptional dishes like succulent roast chicken, flavorful salads, and impressive shoestring fries. While praised for its "excellent service" and "elegant yet approachable" atmosphere, some reviews note occasional slow service and high prices.

Even though I'm not a brunch fan, I used to be a regular at Sunday lunch/brunch at Zuni's, because they always had small plates or entrees to satisfy all tastes. On two past Sundays I visited recently, I was disappointed because there were no non-vegetarian offerings other than the burger. The paella is exorbitantly priced and is somewhat bland. And I'm not quite ready for a whole chicken, when all I want is a small non vegetarian plate. Whatever happened to the small non-vegetarian dishes that the kitchen used to surprise us with, such as the beef tostadas, the skirt steak, duck confit, lamb ragout, etc. ? Or even the Qiang's sausage entree? The fish entree, etc? I was hard pressed both times to find anything that really appealed, and had to settle for something that would not have been my primary choice ever. I am disappointed, because Zuni has always been my favorite place to go to Sunday late mornings. Not sure who is currently in charge of the Sunday menu, but obviously they should review their successful past, and keep in mind that not everyone hankers for a brunch or vegetarian offering, late in the morning. We should have a varied choice including "lunch" offerings, as in Zuni's years old tradition.

The restaurant, which we first visited in 1998, keeps extending a plateau of excellence. Everything we ordered was well executed and flavorful, the pacing of service was relaxed, and the other diners, more locals than tourists like us, appeared as happy as we were. Will return on our next SF visit!

Server was kind of curt. Drinks mixed up. Chicken was dry (honesty Costco was just as good; more moist). Prices too high relative to food quality and service level.

We've only been to the Zuni a few times, but we were longing for their hamburgers and shoestring potatoes. As usual, they did not disappoint us. We ate them and had a sidecar as well, The sidecar was new to us, and very enjoyable. So was the Gateau Victoire -- a rich chocolate cake with whipped cream. We also had a port with dessert. All wonderful. There are many other things on the menu, which I'm sure are also wonderful. We'll go back to try them out.

Zuni continues to delight me with every bite of food. The service is attentive and charming. The mahi mahi was as fresh as Hawaiian fish! The Pavlova desert was one of my favorite deserts ever: light and flavorful and chewy. Thank you for a magical Valentine’s Day lunch.

Amazing food and great service. The lighting was a little bright for my taste, but the food and the service made it better. I will definitely be back.

Zuni never fails. It is to SF what La Coupole is to Paris. The food, the service, the experience, the vibe, all make it the quintessential San Francisco dining destination.

Two of the 12 oysters I had were spoiled. The waiter questioned me when I politely told him that he brought me ten instead of 12 oysters. This is the second time I dined at Zuni when the oysters were not optimal. It’s a shame as I have been going here for the past 35 years.
